Red Cross Assisting 45 Port Chester Residents Left Temporarily Homeless By Fire

Fire in one apartment affected services to building on William Street.

The American Red Cross is assisting at least 45 residents of a Port Chester apartment building that was damaged by a fire late Friday afternoon.

The fire at 221 William St. damaged one apartment but the fire affected services to the entire building, leaving residents of 15 apartments without a place to stay.

The Red Cross, working with its local community partners, is providing emergency shelter in Port Chester to the affected residents. Red Cross volunteers are working with the residents on a 24-hour basis.

Residents of the building are expected to continue receiving emergency shelter and other services through the weekend, with the status of the building expected to be reviewed on Monday.
