UJA-Federation of New York Honors Westchester's Karen S.W. Friedman

Friedman received the Spirit of Peggy Award for embodying the values and contributions of Peggy Tishman, communal leader and philanthropist.

Scarsdale resident Karen S.W. Friedman was recognized for her leadership and service to the Jewish community at UJA-Federation of New York’s Lion of Judah Fall Luncheon on October 30, 2014, at The Plaza in New York City. Friedmanreceived the Spirit of Peggy Award for embodying the values and contributions of Peggy Tishman, a communal leader of great stature and a philanthropist for more than five decades.

Lion of Judah is a special society representing philanthropic women who make individual contributions of at least $6,000 annually to UJA-Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy.More than 16,000 women around the world are recognized as Lions of Judah, including more than 1,200 in the New York Jewish community.

The event, attended by more than 400 philanthropic women who give $7.7 million annually to UJA-Federation, also recognized Sandra F. Cahn and Natalie Barth, both of New York City, for their commitment to philanthropy. Guest speaker Deborah E. Lipstadt, historian, author, and one of the nation’s foremost authorities on the Holocaust, discussed the rise of anti-Semitism around the world.
