Westchester Man Admits Guilt In String Of Burglaries

Police said the man committed more than 15 burglaries including in Rye Brook.

RYE BROOK, NY — A Cortlandt Manor man pleaded guilty to a string of burglaries in Westchester County. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said that Julian Montgomery, 28, of Cortlandt Manor, admitted his guilt in his plea to three counts of second-degree burglary, felonies.

Authorities said, during August and September of 2018, a series of burglaries were committed in Ardsley and Edgemont in the Town of Greenburgh and other parts of Westchester.

It became apparent to investigators there were similarities in the incidents, according to authorities.

The DA's office and the Greenburgh police initiated an investigation in August based on a vehicle seen near multiple crime scenes.

By tracking the defendant's cars, Greenburgh police followed Montgomery to a residence in New Castle Sept. 18 and saw him running from the house with a bag of jewelry in his hand.

Montgomery was arrested near the scene.

Further investigation led to the execution of search warrants at Montgomery's house in Cortlandt Manor, his vehicles and a rented storage unit.

Police said they recovered stolen property that was identified by various burglary victims around the county.

With help from other local police departments and the DA's office, Montgomery was found to have committed more than 15 burglaries in Greenburgh, New Castle, Bronxville, Ardsley, the town and village of Mamaroneck, Rye Brook, Scarsdale and Tarrytown.

Montgomery was remanded into custody until his sentencing which is scheduled for April 17.
