PORT JEFFERSON, NY — A pro-police rally in Port Jefferson Monday afternoon drew about 500 people, with some saying police have been wrongly vilified in recent weeks.

The Rally In Support of Police featured people holding signs reading "Support The Police," "I Support Law Enforcement Not Criminals," "We <3 Our Police," and "Suffolk PD Thanks 4 Protecting Me." One woman held a flag supporting the 2020 re-election campaign of President Donald Trump.

Robert Hines, a retired homicide detective from Miller Place, attended. All three of his children are police officers, News 12 Long Island reported.
