PORT JEFFERSON, NY — A baby groundhog was rescued by a group of firefighters from a storm drain in a residential area of Long Island on Wednesday.

The groundhog fell into a storm drain on Brewster Drive early Wednesday evening, and it was not too long before the Port Jefferson Fire Department's Rescue 7 was on the scene to lend a helping hand, according to a video posted to the department's Facebook page later that night.

Firefighters had to first remove the metal grate covering the drain, and then two of them climbed down inside to retrieve the youngster, which was nearly dwarfed by a firefighter's gloves as he carried it to safety.
