The Mayor and Trustees of Port Jefferson Village are offering a giveaway to selected businesses only in the BID section of the Village. The BID, business improvement district, organization will pay business owners in the district one half the cost for certain building enhancements until their financial surplus runs out. The Village Administration has stated they will waive application and permit fees for these select businesses. This is discriminating against business and residents in all of the remaining areas of the Village footprint in my opinion. By the way, had the Village Administration redefined the BID district to include uptown business enterprises years ago, 10 perhaps, the decline may not have happened. Step children are soon forgotten.
