Long Island Weather: 2 Snow Chances This Week

LONG ISLAND, NY – Snow early this week may be an appetizer for a more powerful storm toward the end of the workweek.

The first storm system arrives Tuesday, the National Weather Service says. There will be a chance of snow during the morning, but the white stuff is more likely to be falling later in the day. Up to 2 inches of accumulation is possible with the highest amounts expected in Nassau County.

Wednesday should be dry before another storm system with the potential of greater impacts takes shape Wednesday night into Thursday, the weather service says. No accumulation estimates have been made for that storm.

Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 33. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Sunday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind 9 to 13 mph.

Monday- Increasing clouds, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of light snow after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

Tuesday- Light snow likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night- Light snow likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Wednesday- Partly sunny, with a high near 38.

Wednesday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Thursday- A chance of snow before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
