Long Island Weather: Friday Snow Estimates Rise Again; Winter Weather Advisory Issued

The heaviest snow is expected during the Friday morning commute. And don't look now, but another snowstorm may be coming next week.

A springlike Thursday will be followed by a snowstorm Friday. The National Weather Service has now issued a winter weather advisory for Long Island. A total of 4-6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate, with the worst of it coming during the Friday morning commute.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 2 p.m Friday. The snow is expected to cause hazardous and slippery travel on roadways and will likely lead to school closures Friday.

"The heaviest snow will likely be falling during the morning commute," the NWS says.

Snow should begin falling late Thursday night or early Friday morning and then pick up in intensity during the morning. The snow is expected to taper off in the afternoon.

The weekend looks sunny, but freezing cold. And then we may be in for another round of wintry weather early next week.

There's currently a 50 percent chance of snow Monday night and Tuesday.

"It's much too early to be specific with the details, but clearly something to be watched," the NWS says.

Weather.com reports, "there is potential for low pressure to intensify near or off the Northeast seaboard, potentially bringing heavy snow and strong winds to parts of the Northeast Tuesday into Wednesday."
