This handsome boy was picked up as a stray and brought to Babylon animal shelter in May of 2019.
Gary is very sweet, smart, and knows his basic commands, but is yet another beautiful senior soul who has a bit of “stranger danger”. Gary is wary of new people and takes some time to trust and warm up to them. Once Gary warms up to you, he is the biggest sweetest friend and protector you could ever have!
Gary is 8 years young, a handsome hunk of a senior weighing in around 65 pounds. He is very playful and is amazing with other medium to large dogs - no small dogs no cats. He is extremely affectionate with people once he gets to know you. Whatever amount of time it takes for Gary to get to know and trust you, the time and investment will be worth it!
Gary has exhibited some guarding issues with items he considers high value such as his food, bones and toys. Realize that it is not all about the food or treats, it’s about the relationship, the trust. Trust is an essential component in the human canine relationship and Gary needs to learn to trust his people. Once you build a bond of trust with Gary he becomes very loving, and will never leave your side.
All this beautiful soul needs is someone who will take the time to get to know him and understand him. Gary will require multiple meet and greets at the shelter so he can learn to trust that not all humans are unkind.
Gary needs a very special Mom or Dad — savvy, experienced, patient individuals who will be committed to him and will put in the time needed to gain his trust, continue to work on his socialization and guarding issues. An adult only home, that will give him the time he needs to decompress, adjust to home life, and warm up to strangers.
Open your heart and give Gary the chance he truly deserves! He is worth multiple trips to the shelter and so worthy of being loved and cherished for the rest of his life.
