Man Shot To Death On Port Jefferson's Main Street: Police

Suffolk County police said they are searching for the shooter.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — A man was shot to death in Port Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk County police said. The shooting happened on Main Street near West Broadway around 3:35 p.m., police said.

Suffolk officers said they responded to a 911 call and found a man who was shot in front of 122 Main St. The man was on the ground with a gunshot wound, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, police said. Police withheld his name pending notification of next of kin.

Police are looking for the shooter. Detectives asked anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The shooting involved two people who are not from the area, Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant told TBR News Media. A camera hooked up to the Suffolk County Police Department's Real Time Crime Center captured the dispute.
