Man Suffering Cardiac Arrest Saved By Off-Duty Suffolk Policeman

An officer was walking through a downtown with his wife when he saw a 62-year-old man collapse and fall unconscious.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — A man who suffered a cardiac arrest in Port Jefferson Village this weekend was rescued by an off-duty Suffolk County police officer, as well as other Sixth Precinct officers, the department said.

Off-duty Marine Bureau officer Michael Mason was walking through Port Jefferson Village with his wife and saw a 62-year-old man collapse and become unconscious at 200 East Broadway in Port Jefferson at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. Mason immediately called 911 and began CPR.

Sixth Precinct Patrol officers Christopher Sakowsky and Angelica Nebel arrived and continued to administer CPR. Sakowsky applied the defibrillator and administered a shock to the man.

The man regained his pulse when the Port Jefferson EMS arrived. He was brought to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson. The man's name was withheld by police.
