Native American History Lesson, Hand Caners Wanted

Your guide to what's happening in the community.

Good morning Port Jefferson. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the area on Tuesday.

- Sunny skies today, with a high near 83 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

- Village Chairs and Wares is looking for someone with experience hand caning, as they're getting backlogged with work. Any craftspeople out there?

- The founder of the Shinnecock-Sewanka Society, Janine Tinsley-Roe, will be speaking at Port Jefferson Free Library today at 7 p.m. to give a history of Long Island's Native Americans.

- Two free Super Bowl tickets are up for grabs today at a blood drive at St Louis de Montfort Church in Sound Beach. Each donor will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the big game this upcoming winter, which is being held at MetLife Stadium – you know, where the Giants and Jets play?

- Comsewogue Superintendent Joe Rella led a rally over the weekend: 'Students, Not Scores.' Check out our coverage here and here. With over a thousand people there, too, we're curious what you have to say. Sign up as a blogger on Patch here to give your opinion of state testing.

- Bob Makofsky calls the recent road work in the area "much needed," and thanked those responsible recently. What do you think? Were the roads fine before, or is this work necessary?
