New Fro-Yo Joint Cuts the Ribbon

Swirls & Twirls, next to PJ Cinemas, celebrated its grand opening on Friday.

Local officials and the Northern Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new business to town on Friday afternoon, as Swirls & Twirls celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting.

Located next to PJ Cinemas on Route 112, the frozen yogurt shop is run by husband and wife James and Erin Tortora, Shoreham residents who has considered opening something of their own for quite some time, though once the idea "started as a fleeting thought" in April, James said, started to move along rather quickly once they looked into it.

"She saw the paper on the windows that said 'This store could be yours,' and we've always gone to this movie theater," said James, a project manager with a software company. Erin previously worked as an ultrasound technician, though pointed to the theater as well as a nice draw for clientele with their new business.

The shop, Swirls & Twirls' twelfth location, opened up two weeks ago and the couple said business has been good since then. Hours are the store are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., except on Friday and Saturday, when it is open until midnight.
