New Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Named By Port Jefferson Schools
He is a Port Jefferson alumnus who has been coaching since 1991.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Peter Meehan was appointed the new coach for the Port Jefferson varsity boys basketball team, the district announced. It was made official at the district's May 19 virtual board of education meeting.

team from 1991 to 1996 and then again from 2002-20 after coaching at St. Joseph's College and Suffolk County Community College, Meehan recently retired from Hampton Bays High School as a special education teacher and special education department coordinator.
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Meehan lead our basketball program," Port
Jefferson Athletic Director Adam Sherrard said via news release. "His dedication to an off-season program, attention to detail, and familiarity coaching within League 7, are some of the many reasons coach Meehan was the elected candidate."

Dave Kamen will return as the junior varsity basketball coach after a successful first year coaching the JV squad last season.
"The school district is confident that coach Meehan and coach Kamen have the characteristics to help our team be competitive on a regular basis while building a positive culture for our student-athletes," Sherrard said.

Upon his appointment, Meehan stated, "I would like to thank Mr. Sherrard and the entire Port Jefferson administration for this outstanding opportunity. I am extremely grateful and very excited to return ‘home’ to begin this new chapter in Royal basketball."
