Port Jefferson Firefighters Battle Massive Home Blaze
At least four other fire departments were called to help douse the fire Wednesday night. Photos are embedded in the story.
PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Port Jefferson firefighters battled a blaze at an Arlington Avenue home on Wednesday night. The department was called at 10:35 p.m., according to Dennis Whittam of Fire News on Facebook.
The homeowner escaped unharmed, and many household pets were saved throughout the evening, the the Port Jefferson Fire Department wrote on Facebook.
"Our thoughts are with him has he navigates this difficult time," the department said.

The fire was brought under control with the help of firefighters from Coram, Mt. Sinai, Setauket, and Terryville. Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance performed firefighter rehab, according to Whittam. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
"The historic design of the home made the fire difficult to access but ultimately was brought under control without incident," the department stated.
