Port Jefferson Football Players Earn Spotlight After Win
Wide receiver Stephen Bayer and quarterback Luke Filippi were recognized for their performances in a recent win over East Hampton/Pierson.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Port Jefferson junior student-athletes Stephen Bayer and Luke Filippi were congratulated by their school district for their performances in a recent football game against East Hampton/Pierson (EH/P).
Bayer, a wide receiver, and Filippi, a quarterback, were recognized as Newsday Gridiron Greats for their dominance in the match on April 3, according to the district.
Stephen caught 17 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns in Port Jefferson’s 25-14 win over EH/P. Luke completed 31 of 42 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 113 yards and a score.

Adam Sherrard, the district director of health, physical education, athletics and nursing, said that Stephen also set a New York State Public High School Athletic Association record in the game with his 17 receptions — the second all-time record for Port Jefferson — in which he tied with 2020
graduate Aidan Kaminska.
"The Port Jefferson School District commends Stephen and Luke for their sportsmanship and continued commitment to academics and athletics," it wrote in a statement.
