Port Jefferson Locals: Mixed on Rolling Stone Cover

Several stores are refusing to carry the latest issue featuring bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The cover of the latest Rolling Stone features Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It's not a grainy image from a surveillance camera or a mug shot but it shows a hip-looking young man, his mussy hair and goatee making him seem more like one of the rock stars the music magazine frequently covers rather than possibly the most hated man in the United States right now. A suspected terrorist. The cover photo supports the investigative piece inside outlining what made the boy turn into a killer.

But since the cover was announced to the public there has been a backlash. Several stores, including Stop & Shop, CVS and Walgreen's, have refused to carry the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine because of its decision to put Tsarnaev on the cover.

We posed the question on our Facebook page and asked readers if they agreed with the retailers' decision. Here is what a few of your neighbors are saying:

Linda Dominick Lombardo: A positive spin can be used by this, clearly shows the face of terror is not what we all think , it can be the " guy " next door , it at the least shows never judge a book by the cover anyone no matter there age or looks can be a terrorist.

Jessica Earl: I understand what they might have been going for, covering an important, relevant story. However, considering the content of this publication as well the fame and glory associated with achieving the coveted "cover" of RS, all they did was glorify a monster in the eyes of their readers. In this case, i dont believe that all press is good press. For the bomber or for RS...

Jacquelyn Smith Kirsch: He's a good looking kid, they made him look like a rock star on their cover... He tried to kill hundreds of people, we should feel sorry for him? Um,... No! RS should be ashamed of themselves

Kathy Devlin- Huber: It's a sad day when the Rolling Stone celebrates terrorists to sell its magazine.

April Campbell Quiggle: It was an unfortunate choice of picture (makes him look sweet and harmless) however I am interested to read the article. RS usually does excellant in depth reporting.

Loretta Miller: Well done to every shop that takes this stance. This is so what's wrong with our Country...we glorify the criminal and double jeopardy the victims. When are we going to stand up and be counted and say we've had enough. Let's get back to the way we were when I was a child, proud of our flag, proud of our religion, proud to pledge allegiance to our Flag. Now we allow outsiders to tell us how we can celebrate, how we can "not" pray, and try to take God out of our heritage. Political correctness now causes every American to be discriminated against. Where will it all end.....I fear the worst.

Wendy Shepard-Kalan: I will never buy that magazine again! Disgusting!

Lynda Edwards: Unethical but not illegal

Diane Collins Eggerman: They did have Charles Manson as a cover in 1970...Unfortunately, this picture makes him look like he fits into 'society'. Maybe that's what RS was going for? As a post-9-11 country, it's inappropriate. Would we be this outraged if it was Time and their person of the year, though?

Mary Glennon Pullis: Exactly Linda, totally agree with you. No one knew what they were involved in. Teachers, friends, his wife. You never know! Scary. I see it differently, the picture shows an innocent, handsome boy. What went wrong? He turned into the monster we know him as.
