Port Jefferson Sophomore Earns National Fencing Rating

Anthony Buono, a sophomore at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School, earned his “E” national rating in men’s sabre after competing in a tournament held in mid January.

To earn the rating, Buono defeated fencers from Stony Brook, Ward Melville High School and Shoreham-Wading River. Buono, who is enrolled at Mission Fencing Center in Rocky Point, is now one of only 13 sabre fencers with an “E” national rating in his age category on Long Island.
