Port Jefferson Student-Artist Receives Honors
Kayla Timpanaro earned an honorable mention in the Art League of Long Island's 14th annual Go APE Advanced Placement Student Exhibition.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Kayla Timpanaro, a senior at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School in Port Jefferson, was awarded an honorable mention in the Art League of Long Island’s 14th annual Go APE Advanced Placement Student Exhibition, according to the school district. The district congratulated her on her achievement.
Kayla’s work was among 124 pieces from students in Advanced Placement courses from dozens of Nassau and Suffolk high schools. Her acrylic and ink artwork, "Things We Left Behind," was one of seven pieces from Long Island students that received honorable mentions.
Kayla works with high school art teacher Lauren Lewonka, who also encouraged the works of two other students who represented the high school in the show — seniors Carley Davidson and Farrah Ghaleb. All three are in the high school’s AP Art and Design program. She cited the trio’s artistic drive stemming from their own curiosities and inquiries and noted their excitement in seeing their works on display with the renowned visual arts organization.
