Port Jefferson Student Plans To Sue District For $2M: Report

The district declined to publish her poem about the killing of George Floyd in its literary magazine, according to a report.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Port Jefferson sophomore Ruby Ray plans to sue her school district for $2 million after it did not publish her sonnet about George Floyd's killing in its literary magazine, Newsday reported. A notice of claim was filed Tuesday through the 16-year-old's father, attorney John Ray, to Suffolk County Supreme Court, according to Newsday.

The district does not comment on pending litigation, Superintendent Jessica Schmettan said.
