Port Jefferson Village Restaurants Offering Free Delivery

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — Port Jefferson Village, the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Improvement District teamed up to offer free delivery services from restaurants in the 11777 zip code. The action is meant to help keep delivery drivers on-staff and actively working as the nation faces the new coronavirus.

All bars and restaurants in New York State were mandated to close to help prevent COVID-19 from spreading, but takeout and delivery are still allowed. On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced all "non-essential" New Yorkers would largely be forced to stay home starting Sunday night; exempt workers include those in health care, food supply and delivery, pharmacies and utilities.

"Our retailers and professionals are in a little bit more of a jam," Barbara Ransome, director of operations of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce said in an email.
