Rain, Films, and Your Chance to Be on TV

Your guide to what's happening in the community.

Good morning Port Jefferson. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the area on Tuesday.

- Rain. After weather in the mid-90s recently, and humidity thick enough to cut a knife through the air with, we're finally expected to get a good rainfall today, hopefully dropping the humidity level the rest of the week along with it. Thunderstorms are likely after noon, bringing up to a half inch of rain.

- But rain has been light as of late - so much so, according to the Suffolk County Water Authority, that Monday morning marked the public benefit corporation's highest recorded water usage rate in the history of the water authority, with 533,000 gallons of water pumped per minute at 5:42 a.m. The mark was up 10,000 gallons over the previous high recorded last July.

- But back to today: what's better on a rainy day than a good movie? The Stony Brook Film Festival continues today. See what's playing.

- Dipamkara Meditation Center on E. Main Street is holding a class tonight from 7 to 8:30. Cost is $10.

- A New York-based production company is looking for local homeowners who have been the victims of bad contractors. Is that you? You could be on TV, if so.

- St. Charles Hospital is holding a smoking cessation class tonight at 6 for people trying to kick the habit.
