Sea Tow Port Jefferson Celebrates 25 Years In Business
Capt. Pete Murphy started alone with under 50 members; but he now has five employees and three boats that service thousands of boaters.

PORT JEFFERSON, NY — As a kid, Capt. Pete Murphy could often be found fishing on Long Island Sound, and at the time, he was clueless that he would end up making a living on the water helping out other boaters.
But this year, he is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of owning Sea Tow Port Jefferson, according to a news release.
Murphy still loves the Sound, but now he cruises and fishes with his wife, Melissa, and their five children, including his eldest son, 19-year-old Matthew, who hopes to take over the family business after his retirement.

“It’s hard to believe I have owned this local Sea Tow franchise for 25 years,” Murphy stated in the release. “There are a lot of people that helped make it happen and our commitment to the community is stronger now than ever.”

When Murphy first started working at Sea Tow Port Jefferson, he did practically everything by himself at the business, which had less than 50 members at the time, but over the years, it has grown to three boats, five employees, and thousands of members.
Murphy said he is grateful for the local community’s support, and he gives back in a number of ways, such as by sponsoring charities like the American Cancer Society’s annual regatta and Suffolk’s Police Athletic League sports, as well as the dragon boat races in Port Jefferson Harbor, and community beach cleanups at West Meadow Beach.
Murphy, who is active in the chamber of commerce, works with his team on the Sea Tow Foundation to maintain a Life Jacket Loaner Station so that anyone who needs a life jacket will not go without.
For Murphy’s work in the community, Sea Tow Port Jefferson was awarded Franchise of the Year by Sea Tow Services International in 2010, according to the news release.
Sea Tow Chief Executive Officer Captain Joseph Frohnhoefer III said the organization is thrilled to congratulate Murphy on his 25th anniversary in business.
“We take pride in the services that we offer the boating community and Sea Tow Port Jefferson maintains these standards in all they do,” Frohnhoefer stated.
