Local residents are criticizing a developer's plan to build 200 senior housing units at a South Setauket golf course that could result in a loss of tax revenue for school districts.
Heatherwood Golf and Villas, a Commack-based developer, has asked the Brookhaven Town Industrial Agency for an aid package that includes tax breaks to complete a $54.9 million project.
Residents and members of the Port Jefferson Station-Terryville Civic Association have raised issues about the project, saying they hadn't heard of the tax breaks.

Brookhaven Councilwoman Valerie Cartright told Newsday that she opposed the proposal, saying tax breaks "seem to be in clear contravention to the promises made to our community."
