Shirley Man Charged In Rape Of Woman In Coram: PD
BREAKING: Jesse Diaz, 29, was arrested in Shirley on Wednesday on charges of rape and strangulation, Suffolk police said.
CORAM, NY — A 29-year-old Shirley man has been charged in the broad daylight rape and near strangulation of a woman in a wooded area near Route 112 and Skips Road in Coram on May 27, Suffolk police said Wednesday.
Jesse Diaz was arrested in front of a 800 Montauk Highway in Shirley, the location of a shopping center, at about 6:40 p.m., police said. He has been charged with with first-degree rape and second-degree strangulation, both felonies, and will be held overnight at the 6th Precinct, according to police.
The woman was walking on a trail just before 2 p.m., when she was attacked, police said. She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center for treatment, according to police.

Diaz is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
