Special Weather Statement Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service issued the following special weather statement for Long Island late Wednesday night:

Temperatures will fall into the teens for most of the area tonight. This will cause moisture or slush on untreated surfaces to freeze, resulting in areas of black ice. Extra caution should be used if traveling, particularly on sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and secondary roads.

Temperatures aren't expected to get above the 30-degree mark until around noon Thursday.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 33. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Northwest wind 8 to 15 mph.

Thursday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 20. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Friday- Sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. West wind 7 to 11 mph.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a steady temperature around 32. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Sunday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.
