Special Weather Statement Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued following special weather statement for Long Island Monday night:

With recent wet grounds from this afternoon into this evening as well as decreasing temperatures to below freezing and light winds overnight into early Tuesday, conditions will become more favorable for patchy black ice formation. This will create icy slippery spots on any untreated surfaces. Roads that appear wet may have some icy spots late tonight into early Tuesday. Proceed with caution if traveling tonight into early Tuesday.

Christmas Day- Sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 26. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Light west wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 25. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 41.

Thursday Night- Rain likely after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday- Rain. High near 55. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night- A 40 percent chance of rain before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.

Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.
