Stormy Saturday: Heavy Rain, Damaging Winds Possible on Long Island

If you have outdoor plans today, the earlier in the day, the better. Because things are likely to take a stormy turn this afternoon and evening.

A hazardous weather outlook if in effect for all of Long Island. The National Weather Service says there is a "marginal risk" of severe thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours on Saturday. The main threat will be locally damaging straight line winds.

The isolated nature of the storms will mean that not every location will experience stormy weather as the front moves through, according to AccuWeather.com. Some areas may just notice an increase in clouds and a slight breeze.

"These storms are not expected to produce widespread areas of severe weather, but the strongest storms could be heavy and gusty," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said.

Sunday, though, will be just about perfect, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s.
