Suffolk Corrections Officer Killed In Car Crash Laid To Rest

Twenty-five-year-old Candice Ogiejko, who had been on the job for a little over two years, was killed in a car crash June 23.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — "Taps" was played on a bugle as the colleagues of Correction Officer Candice Ogiejko lined up in their dress uniforms outside St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Port Jefferson Station on Monday to deliver one final salute on Monday.

The 25-year-old was one of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department’s newest recruits and had only a little over two years on the job when she was killed last week in a car crash when she lost control of the car she was driving and it went off the road and down an embankment on Sills Road in Yaphank.
