Sunset Sail, LIPA Plant, Rain Possible

Your guide to what's happening in the community.

Good morning Port Jefferson. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the area on Thursday.

- Bring your umbrella out with you today, just in case: a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms are forecasted for after noon in the area into tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

- There's also a 50 percent chance that it doesn't rain. And sunset sails aboard the 80-foot 'Soundwaters' kick off this afternoon through Sunday out of Port Jefferson Harbor, with afternoon tours during the weekend. Anyone plan on going? Click here for more info.

- Does this old restaurant look familiar? This black and white photo from 'back in the day' now operates under a different name.

- On the news front, one LIPA executive spoke about the utility company's recent decision to move forward in negotiating for a 706mW plant, and how that decision affects repowering of the Port Jefferson plant.

- Bail for Thomas Costa, the 31-year-old man charged in a fatal hit-and-run, was set at $150,000 cash or $300,000 bond this week. The family of the victim, Karen Benjamin, is working to up the charges on Costa; stay tuned for a story on that later on today.

- In another unfortunate case, the hit-and-run driver who killed a Centereach man in December of last year still remains at large. Police recently appealed to the public for a second time to help find the driver.
