Vandermuelen Tennis Players Come Up Aces

Port Jefferson's Goldstein, London and Collins reach Suffolk championship tournament.

Three members of the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School varsity girls tennis team competed at the Suffolk County championships, held on Oct. 17 at William Floyd High School in Shirley.

The students made it into competition after defeating some tough teams during the season. The Port Jefferson doubles team of Danielle Goldstein and Rebekah London was one of 16 duos to make it to the championships, and No. 1 singles player Rachel Collins returned to the championships for the third year in a row as one of the top 16 singles players in the county.

The three seniors additionally led their squad, coached by Dennis Christofor, to the Suffolk County team playoffs as the ninth-seeded team of the 53 schools in the county that play varsity tennis.
