Any snow that does fall won't be melting any time soon and forecasters are already beginning to buzz about a potentially much bigger storm next week.
"Models are starting to signal a potential significant winter storm for the middle of the week, although there is a lot of spread in low tracks in both the GEFS and EC EPS," New York's NWS office wrote in a forecast discussion Thursday night, referring to two forecast models. "Stay tuned."
At the moment, the NWS is calling for a 40 percent chance of snow next Wednesday night and Thursday.
Very cold weather will also continue into the new year with the next chance of the temperature rising above the 32-degree freezing mark not coming until Thursday.
