What Would Work on the Lawrence Aviation Site?

While remediation at the site is expected to take up to two decades, a study is expected to be completed next year exploring potential uses at the former Lawrence Aviation site – a contaminated Superfund site in Port Jefferson Station comprising over 125 acres.

The Environmental Protection Agency is leading a clean-up, having installed a filtration system on site in 2011 that has been, in simple terms, compared to a "big Brita filter."

Newsday reported on Thursday that Brookhaven Town planners are expected to complete a land-use study next year. Though obviously, considering the site's history, its uses are rather limited.

Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, suggested open space, or a park, on site, while First District Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld said that an office building could perhaps be suitable.
