The Port Jefferson Village web site has a section named "Bids". which does not have any additions since 2018 for some sort of truck. However there are deals or planned financial issues to be decided on which should have or should be Bid unless there are extenuiating circumstances. For example currently, based on meeting minutes, the building department is contracting for a copier contract, the Country club has approved a contract for thousands of dollars for cobblestone blocks around tee boxes and the parking committee is having surveys and other services regarding Mariners Way, GAP, parking lot, also without a Bid. If these anticipated costs to the taxpayers are subject to Municipal laws and guidelines, then they should be followed or an explanation should be given as to why not. The elimination of Bids reduces the level of checks and balances the taxpayers are protected by and opens the door to possible overpayment, theft or worse in my opinion.
