2 Port Washington Women Recognized For Service To Community
The Town of North Hempstead recently recognized 13 women — including two from Port Washington — for their contributions to the community.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Thirteen Long Island women — including two from Port Washington — were recently recognized for their contributions to the Town of North Hempstead.
The honorees for the 28th annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor are:
- Lynn Capuano, Port Washington
- Pam O'Connell, Port Washington
- Margaret Ballantyne-Mannion, Mineola
- Kira Bryant, Westbury
- Traci Caines, Westbury
- Ellen Fox, Sands Point
- Carolina Guardado, Westbury
- Diane Harragan, Manhasset
- Ann Marie Hradek, Albertson
- Farhana Islam, New Hyde Park
- Dianne Karl, Williston Park
- Rosa Stein, Manhasset
- Ann Tountas, Manhasset Hills
Since 1994, North Hempstead has held the Women's Roll of Honor breakfast to recognize women who have contributed to their community or have accomplished a significant achievement through public or private efforts, officials said. The Women's Roll of Honor is named after the late May W. Newburger, who served as the Town's supervisor from 1994 to 2003.

"The Town is proud to honor these outstanding women for their incredible service to North Hempstead," said Town Clerk Wayne Wink. "Each of these women reflects the best that our communities have to offer, and we are proud to honor them for their work."
Lynn Capuano is the president of Terrapin Environmental Solutions Inc. — a Port Washington-based business devoted to protecting air, water, and land through education and providing sustainable, cost-effective solutions to help communities achieve their environmental stewardship goals.

According to her LinkedIn, Capuano was a board member for the Port Washington Children's Center from 2010 to 2019. The nonprofit, non-sectarian childcare center is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Pam O'Connell is a media specialist who has created and donated hundreds of press releases, brochures, and advertisement flyers informing the community of various events, according to a New York Senate resolution recognizing the resident. The mother of three has also contributed to Long Island Together, a group that advocates for social justice and organizes programs to support marginalized members of the local community.
"North Hempstead has no shortage of inspirational women who have made a tremendous impact on our communities," said Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth. "We are fortunate to induct this new class into the Women's Roll of Honor and celebrate their achievements as part of our North Hempstead family."
