3 Port Students Receive Top Honors in NYSDOH Poster Contest
Congratulations Leah Dong, Eva Krell and Ben Ollendorff

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK (March 2021)—The Port Washington Union Free School District (PWUFSD) announced today that three students—Leah Dong, Eva Krell and Ben Ollendorf—from Carrie Palmer Weber Middle School have been recognized by the New York State (NYS) Department of Health for their creativity and design in its annual poster contest.
Leah Dong, first place winner in the NYS Radon Poster Contest, submitted an illustration of a virtual computer screen with several windows describing what radon is. Eva Krell, second place winner, submitted a vibrantly colored poster with several facts on radon. Ben Ollendorf, third place winner, drew three houses asking viewers to identify which house has radon.
To qualify for the poster contest, eligible students were required to enter a visually appealing poster focused on at least one of the following topics: What is radon? Where is radon found? Where does radon come from? Radon can cause lung cancer, test your home for radon, and other radon messages. Sponsored by the NYS Department of Health, the contest aims to educate students about the harmful effects of elevated levels of indoor radon gas and to increase the number of homes tested for radon.
