4 North Shore Beaches Closed Due To Untreated Sewage Overflow
Health officials say a sewer main blockage caused untreated sewage to flow into a storm drain and out into Hempstead Harbor.
PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Four North Shore beaches have been closed after a sewer main blockage caused untreated sewage to flow into a storm drain and out into Hempstead Harbor.
Nassau County health officials on Tuesday closed the following four beaches indefinitely as a precaution:
- North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington
- Tappen Beach, Glenwood Landing
- Morgan Beach, Glen Cove
- Sea Cliff Village Beach, Sea Cliff
The beaches will remain closed until the county Health Department reviews water quality samples.
