All 16 Schreiber Seniors Advance in National Competition

Congratulations to Port Washington's National Merit Finalists

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2021)—Paul D. Schreiber High School’s elite group of 16 students have officially been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program after being named semifinalists in the fall.

“This national recognition is a true testament to these students’ academic abilities and unlimited potential,” said Dr. Michael Hynes, superintendent of Port Washington Union Free School District. “On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire administration, we are exceptionally proud of our National Merit finalists and look forward to supporting them throughout the remainder of the competition.”

As finalists, Schreiber’s seniors will be juried based on their academic record, school curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, written recommendation, extracurricular activities and leadership, and original essay. Beginning in March and continuing through mid-June, nearly 7,600 finalists will be notified if they’ve been selected to receive a Merit Scholarship award: National Merit $2,500 scholarship, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship, or College-sponsored Merit Scholarship.
