Beautiful dog up for adoption

Needs and wants forever home

Zeus STILL sits in a shelter kennel day after day waiting for someone to spare a glance at him, to make his dreams come true...

Sadly, this cutie is the longest resident at The Shelter Connection in Port Washington, New York — sitting behind bars since 2011. Heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to describe the depth of my feelings about this. My heart breaks a little more every time I look into his eyes; never chosen, always overlooked.

Zeus is a Pitbull mix, around 9 years young, a goofy guy with a very loving personality. He is a big clown who loves hanging out with the shelter staff and volunteers. Zeus knows all of his basic commands and so much more! Zeus is an extremely well behaved boy who is waiting for the love of his life to walk through those shelter doors and take him home.

Zeus would thrive in a home as the only pet, but with him by your side you’ll need no other. I know that needing to be an only pet makes it much more difficult to find a home, but I also have faith that there is a home out there that is just perfect for him.

Although Zeus is adored and well taken care of at the shelter, there is a longingness in his eyes that is indescribable; all he wants is a loving family and home to call his own. Why is he still waiting?! Is it because of his looks, his breed, or that he needs to be an only pet? None of these reasons are valid for the lack of interest in this terrific boy. He truly deserves something incredible, he needs a wonderful holiday miracle. Could you be the one to make his wish come true?

An issue that this boy is dealing with is he does not “show well” in the kennel. When potential adopters walk by he leaps and barks and gives a completely different impression from the dog he really is. This kennel behavior is not uncommon, and you should not judge a dog based on this particular behavior. How would you feel or act if it was you in that kennel. Zeus is no different, he has feelings too. He just wants to be noticed, he’s begging for attention, he’s begging to get out and no one seems to understand – he just wants to be loved.

The best thing to do is to go down to the shelter, ask to meet him and have them bring Zeus outside, that’s where his true personality shines through. Don’t go to any shelter and just walk through kennel areas and make your decision about a dog based on their looks or kennel behavior. The dog you see and their actions inside that kennel that they have been sitting in for 23 hours a day is not that dogs true personality.

Rescued dogs are known for an incredible outpouring of unconditional love. After all, you’re their hero! The bond you’ll build with a dog like Zeus will lift your spirits and improve your quality of life. Open your heart, share your love and home with a dog who desperately needs it.

I ask that you please share Zeus’s story with everyone you know and ask them to share it too! I believe there is someone out there who is searching for a special boy like him. Together we can change his life, let’s get Zeus noticed and make him unforgettable!
