Concert Series Lineup Announced For North Hempstead Parks

Drive-in concerts are slated for Port Washington, and Concerts by Candlelight will be held throughout the town's park system.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — North Hempstead Town officials ushered in the warm weather this week by announcing the lineup for a series of concerts, including drive-in concerts and Concerts by Candlelight.

The drive-in series will run on Sundays at 6 p.m. at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. Cars will be admitted to the park starting one hour prior to the show for the drive-in concerts, but concert attendees must remain inside their cars. Advanced registration is not required for the events.

  • May 2 at 6 p.m. – Decadia will perform hits from the 80s and beyond.
  • May 23 at 6 p.m. – MYXD Order will play Classic Rock and dance tunes.
  • June 6 at 6 p.m. – Cold Spring Harbor will play Billy Joel’s greatest hits.
  • June 20 at 6 p.m. – 90’s Band will perform, well, hits from the 90s, as part of their tribute.
  • July 11 at 6 p.m. – Something Fresh will rock 80s Freestyle, R&B, and today's hits.
  • July 25 at 6 p.m. – Dr. K’s Motown Review will perform the sounds of Motown.
  • Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. – Street Fighter will belt out favorites from the Rolling Stones.
  • Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. – Material Girl will play pop icon Madonna’s hits.

Concerts by Candlelight will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays at various parks throughout the town’s system. But unlike the traditional summer concerts from days of old, attendees will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis, with seating capacity limited by social distancing guidelines. To aid in that, attendees will be asked to stay within their designated seating circle, in which they will separated from other groups by six feet apart.

  • May 13 at 7:30 p.m. – Ken McGorry will feature music from the 70s and 80s at Whitney Pond Park.
  • May 27 at 7:30 p.m. – Harper’s Ferry will play Irish folk tunes at Clark Botanic Garden.
  • June 3 at 7:30 p.m. – The Next Level Band will croon Caribbean tunes at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park.
  • June 17 at 7:30 p.m. – Genessa and The Selena Experience will play the songs of the late Selena at North Hempstead Beach Park’s amphitheater.
  • June 24 at 7:30 p.m. – The Remedy will feature rhythmic top 40s rock and country hits at Whitney Pond Park.
  • July 1 at 7:30 p.m. – Luis Damon will play Salsa music at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park.
  • July 8 at 7:30 p.m. – Endless Summer will perform the Beach Boy’s greatest hits at Michael J. Tully Park.
  • July 15 at 7:30 p.m. – The LPs will play 70s and 80s music at Clark Botanic Garden.
  • July 29 at 7:30 p.m. – A Decade of Soul will perform classic Soul and Motown tunes at Whitney Pond Park.
  • Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. – Copperline will feature the music of James Taylor and Friends at North Hempstead Beach Park’s amphitheater.
  • Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. – Pour Some 80s On Me will perform hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s at Clark Botanic Garden.

Supervisor Judi Bosworth said town officials are “extremely excited to offer the drive-in concert series and Concerts by Candlelight again this summer.”

“Families, friends, and neighbors are encouraged to swing by and enjoy the diverse and entertaining line-up of bands we have in store,” she said. “All of these concerts are absolutely free, and we hope Town residents will enjoy a much-needed fun and safe night out.”

The events are free, however, town officials are encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable or canned foods for its food donation drive. Restroom facilities will be available for attendees. For more information, call 516-869-6311.
