County Receives $250,000 Homeland Security Funding
The grants will support the NCPD's Marine and Aviation Bureaus.
(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislators recently voted unanimously to allocate more than $250,000 in federal Homeland Security funding to support the Nassau County Police Department's Marine and Aviation Bureaus.
The $250,875 in Port Security Grant Funds will be used by the Marine Bureau to buy boat engines and sonar equipment, and by the Aviation Bureau to procure safety vests and drone detection equipment. These tools will greatly support both bureaus in their missions to detect and respond to potential threats.
To meet the one-third matching fund requirement, the County has allocated $83,625 to this initiative, which was drawn from its non-Federal Asset Forfeiture fund.
"These grant funds will go a long way toward ensuring that the officers who patrol our County in the air and on the sea have the tools they need to excel in their mission," Nassau County Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove), the ranking member of the Legislature's Public Safety committee, said. "I was very pleased to join my colleagues in a unanimous vote in support of this vital investment in our Aviation and Marine bureaus."
