Donate Crayons, See A Movie, All for A Good Cause
A Port Washington theater celebrates National Crayon Day while helping children in Head Start programs.

Tuesday is National Crayon Day, and Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington is gearing up for a celebration.
The movie house is partnering with Head Start in a special crayon collection. Children 12 and under donating a box of crayons at the 11 a.m. screening of “The Hero of Color City” on Saturday and Sunday will get free admission to the movie.
The crayons will then be donated to a local Head Start program, Jordan Desner, an owner of Soundview Cinemas, told Patch. The event gets crayons into the hands of three-and-four-year-old children who might otherwise have trouble finding access to school supplies. The initiative is spearheaded by a Crayon Collection, a nonprofit based in California.
