Ex-Port Washington Fire Chief, A 59-Year Member, Dies

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Joseph Fico Jr., a 59-year member and former chief of the Port Washington Fire Department has died, the department confirmed to Patch on Friday.

"It is with deep regret The Chiefs office of the Port Washington Fire Department along with the officers and members of the Atlantic Hook & Ladder Co.1 announce the untimely passing of 59 year member and Ex-Chief Joseph Fico Jr.," the chief's office wrote in a Facebook post.

Members of the community mourned his passing, with one person calling Fico a "very sweet man."

"We have many fond and funny memories," the Facebook commenter wrote.

Another said: "A great man a great loss."
