Flash Flood Warning Again Issued For Nassau North Shore

BREAKING: The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Nassau County's North Shore for the second day in a row.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Thunderstorms rumbled through Nassau County's North Shore for the second consecutive day Thursday and a flash flood warning was once again issued for the area. The warning, in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday, included Sands Point, Port Washington, Great Neck, Williston Park, Glen Cove, East Hills, Bayville, Mill Neck, East Norwich, Muttontown and Jericho, among other municipalities.

Around 11 a.m. Thursday, doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the region. Up to an inch of rain had already fallen when the alert was issued, and flash flooding was imminent.

Around 10:45 a.m., a strong thunderstorm was seen over Baxter Estates that was nearly stationary, the weather service said.

"Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes," the weather service said.
