'The Goonies' And More Drive-In Movies Come To North Hempstead
Drive-in movies are coming to the Town of North Hempstead, beginning with the popular 1980s film "The Goonies."

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — "The Goonies," a popular film released in the 1980s in which a group of young misfits find an old map and follow clues to try to find pirate treasure, is coming to Port Washington as state officials prepare to ease severe social distancing measures.
Judi Bosworth, the North Hempstead town supervisor, and the town board announced Monday the launch of a new drive-in movie series at town-operated facilities. Films will be projected onto large outdoor screens so residents can enjoy a night out while abiding by social distancing protocols. The first movie to be shown will be "The Goonies" on May 23 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.
The film features an All-Star cast of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano.

"I am so pleased that we will be able to bring drive-in movies to North Hempstead," Bosworth said in a statement. "This program is fun, family-friendly, and, most importantly, in-line with the social-distancing guidelines we have all been following over the last two months."
Registration for the events are free. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable and canned foods to each showing as part of the town's donation drive.

"During these uncertain times, many families and individuals are finding themselves in need," Bosworth said. "The Town is making an effort to assist vulnerable populations by launching this donation effort in conjunction with our drive-in events."
Residents should register their cars in advance by visiting NorthHempsteadNY.gov/drive-in or calling 311. The program is expected to take place every Saturday after sundown, beginning May 23, continuing into summer months. A detailed schedule will be posted on the town's website.
The showings will take place at either North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park, and Manorhaven Beach Park in Port Washington. The town is considering other locations as well.
