Hurricane Dorian: Displaced Dogs, Cats, Come To Port Washington

Dozens of animals rescued from the path of the deadly Hurricane Dorian are coming to Port Washington to find forever homes.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Dozens of animals rescued from the path of the deadly and destructive Hurricane Dorian are coming to Port Washington to find forever homes. Rescue teams will bring 35 cats and 19 dogs to the North Shore Animal League America campus on Lewyt Avenue on Sunday morning, the organization said in a news release.

The team headed south in a mobile unit on Tuesday hauling supplies donated by the community. On Wednesday and Thursday, the team dropped off the supplies to partners in the Carolinas and brought back animals to give the local shelters more space for storm-displaced animals.

The animals will be seen by veterinarians in Port Washington before they're groomed and put up for adoption.
