NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — Lift Up Local, an initiative just launched by the Town of North Hempstead, will temporarily help local dining and retail stores expand operations outdoors, officials announced. The "Lift Up Local" program aims to boost restaurants, food service establishments and retail stores by allowing local Chambers of Commerce and Business Improvement Districts to obtain permits closing streets for outdoor dining and retail use.

The program would temporarily allow businesses another way to expand operations outdoors while they reduce indoor occupancy and density restrictions amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The permit is free and can be used for one to multiple days between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. Application reviews will be expedited.
