Local Boy Scout Gives Makeover to Trail in Port Washington

The 1.25 mile trail is new and improved.

Two local Boy Scouts, including one from Port Washington, have made donations to the Town of North Hempstead that make local parks a better experience for residents.

Part of Kevin Dans’, of Port Washington Boy Scout Troop 7, Eagle Scout project included cleaning up along the Hempstead Harbor Trail in Port Washington and installing a new picnic bench for the 1.25 mile trail runs south adjacent to West Shore Road.

The funds left over from his project will be used for the beautification and maintenance of the Hempstead Harbor Trail.

Yianni Binnaris from Plandome Boy Scout Troop 71, as part of his Eagle Scout award requirement, constructed multiple bat boxes at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson to combat the mosquito population. The remainder of the funds raised, $2,303, will go to projects at Clark Botanic Garden such as the renovation of a butterfly garden and the creation of a pollinator garden.
