MANHASSET, NY — The Manhasset Police Activity League and the Town of North Hempstead on Wednesday unveiled a new electronic scoreboard at Manhasset Valley Field.

The 18-foot scoreboard, donated by the North Shore University Hospital, was unveiled during the PAL sixth-grade baseball semifinals. NSUH Executive Director Jon Sendach threw out the first pitch.

"North Shore University Hospital has an important bond with the Town of North Hempstead. We are deeply rooted in this community," Sendach said. "We are the largest employer in Manhasset and many of our team live here too. That's why the hospital wanted to show our support for Manhasset PAL through the donation of this fantastic scoreboard at Manhasset Valley Park."

Manhasset PAL baseball and softball programs currently have 450 children at eight grade levels participating across dozens of intramural and travel teams. Games take place from late March to early November.

"Manhasset Valley Field fills a critical role for the community as the center of youth baseball for the Town," said Brad Smith, president of Manhasset PAL Baseball. "The community's investment in making this program the largest of its kind in Nassau County is only accomplished through our partnership with the Town of North Hempstead and the community at large. North Shore University Hospital's donation helps us to make the program even stronger."

Officials say the scoreboard was purchased through a gift from NSUH to Manhasset PAL, which in turn donated it to the Town of North Hempstead.

"We are so thankful to North Shore University Hospital for their partnership with the Town and for their generous donation of this state-of-the-art scoreboard," said North Hempstead Council Member Veronica Lurvey. "It will be a great addition to games played by Manhasset PAL teams as well as everyone who plays at our wonderful field in Manhasset Valley Park."
