North Hempstead Offers Remote Activity Programming For Kids
Kids who are staying at home to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus can now participate in remote, interactive town activities.
NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY – Kids in North Hempstead who are staying at home to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus can now participate in remote, interactive town activities, thanks to new programming that includes sports skills classes, dance parties and more.
On Wednesday, Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced new remote programming targeted for children and seniors that will be offered by the departments of Community Services and Parks and Recreation starting on May 18.
The interactive programming will include basketball and football skills classes, kids dance parties, National Circus project workshops and a reptile show featuring Erik the Reptile Guy.

The programs will be broadcast on the town's social media channels as well as on North Hempstead TV. Residents can access the programming on channel 18 or 63 on Cablevision and channel 46 on Verizon FIOS.
"We have adapted our recreational offerings during these unprecedented times to present fun and interactive programs for kids to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes," Bosworth said in an announcement on the town's Facebook page. "This ensures that we can do our part in helping to keep our residents safe and allow them to watch and learn something new at the same time."

The first week of programming will air on social media at the following times:
- Monday, May 18 at 3 p.m.: Dance Party with Belkis Benu
- Wednesday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m.: Erik the Reptile Guy
- Friday, May 22 at 3 p.m.: Sing Along with Leonora Knight
- Friday, May 22 at 4 p.m.: Live concert
Additional programming will air on NHTV on the following dates:
- Monday, May 18 at 2 p.m.: Yoga for Toddlers
- Friday, May 22 at 9 a.m.: Medication instruction
This new programming is in addition to the currently senior fitness and yoga classes that air on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
